Week 10: Excellence In Reading Challenge

Frederick by Leo Lionni
Book Description by Amazon Frederick, the poet mouse, stores up something special for the long cold winter. Description: While other mice are gathering food for the winter, Frederick seems to daydream the summer away. When cold weather comes, it is Frederick the poet-mouse who warms his friends and cheers them with his words. Teaches the importance of art and poetry... as food for the spirit! Awards: A Caldecott Honor Book; an ALA Notable Children's Book; and a New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year!

Alexis enjoyed this book, she liked the way Frederick's imagination and memories bring joy to his friends when all seems gloomy.

We are also reading The Secret Garden as our read aloud for this week. We downloaded the free Kindle Edition from Amazon and we are reading 20-30 min/day. This one may take us a while to complete.

We have Frederick, but I haven't read it aloud yet, because I am still preparing the lessons for a children's art curriculum based on children's illustrators and books, and this is one of the books.

I didn't do a post about books this week, but we did enjoy Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel! My girls loved it! Thanks for the recommendations!
